The Systems That Saved My Sanity and Reclaimed My Time

The Systems That Saved My Sanity and Reclaimed My Time

There was a time, right after I’d re-injured my shoulder, when I leaned into work so hard I almost burned out. With no way to work out and desperate not to feel like a useless potato sack, I threw myself into overwork.

Then came the lockdown, and working seemed like the only thing keeping me remotely sane.

But as with anything you push too far, it didn’t last. I was bulldozing through tasks, convincing myself it was progress. The truth became glaringly obvious once I started working out again at home.

I wasn’t moving forward; I was wasting time on low-value tasks that gave the illusion of accomplishment but left me spinning in circles. I was checking all the boxes, but for what? That realization hit like a ton of bricks.

That’s when I decided enough was enough. I couldn’t keep living like that—I didn’t even recognize myself.

So, I went back to the basics: pen to paper, organizing my life with ruthless clarity. And that’s when I decided to dive headfirst into creating for Notion. Spoiler alert: I’m certified now, thank you very much. Three years of hard work paid off.

But that leap wasn’t just about Notion—it was about cutting through the noise, facing my reality, and redefining what I actually wanted.

Few people know how to practice feeling good. Few know how to spend time understanding themselves, creating a foundation for their dreams, and building routines and systems to align with what they say they want. Few know how to recognize—and even fewer know how to accept—that it might be time for a change.

Few know how to take a critical look at their situation and say, "enough." Few realize that they can shift their baseline because they decide to. Few realize they can decide at any time to change it all. Few understand that they can sit down, figure out what they want, who they are, who they want to be, and then create a plan to make it happen. At any point in their lives.

Procrastination, clutter, indecision, overcommitment, disorganization, people-pleasing, mindless scrolling, neglecting self-care, guilt-driven busyness—all these are reflections of accepting life at face value, letting it "just happen," going "with the flow."

But distractions compound over time. They creep in as anxiety, drain your energy, and steal your mental clarity. Starting a task feels like a monumental effort; cleaning crumbs off your desk becomes insurmountable. In the blink of an eye, you’ve built so much friction around yourself that moving forward becomes more difficult than it should be.

You spend hours making small tweaks to your work, choosing what to wear, or clearing your email inbox—but never actually move the needle. You binge-watch hours of videos and never apply what you’ve learned. You skip meals, skip workouts, skip yourself. You prioritize everyone else’s emergencies. You create a launch strategy but never actually launch. You outline a book, but you never write it.

Sound familiar?

### The Art of Filtering

The art of doing starts with filtering. Filter what’s important. Filter what you’re consuming. Filter what’s for now and what’s for later. Filter—or block—time in your day for producing, resting, and taking care of yourself.

Decide what’s relevant and what’s BS. What (and who) adds value and what (and who) doesn’t. Eliminate what’s low value:

- Clothes you don’t wear.

- People who drain your energy or stray you from your path.

- Mindless social scrolling.

- Micromanaging every detail.

- Relationships that only add negativity or opportunism.

### Creating Systemphoria

Systemphoria is that blissful moment when you witness the metamorphosis of chaos into clarity. When each task finds its place, priorities are established, and you see a clear path forward.

Imagine automating tasks or eliminating decision fatigue:

- A simplified wardrobe with outfits ready to go, catalogued in a system.

- A system to log and filter your ideas, notes, and tasks.

- Processes that reduce the mental load of repetitive decisions—like what to eat, wear, or tackle first.

These small systems free up hours and reduce stress, allowing you to focus on what truly matters.

### Audit and Organize

Take an honest look at the areas where you’re spending time but not achieving results. Where are the bottlenecks? What’s causing friction? What could you automate, delegate, or eliminate?

For those just starting out, all-in-one templates can minimize the friction of building systems from scratch. They are perfect for people like you, who might be trying to systemize their life but feel stuck on where to begin. These templates are like a "get-started pack," reducing the overwhelm and offering a foundation you can build upon and tweak as needed.

When you use these templates, you're not just organizing your tasks—you’re setting yourself up with guardrails to stay on track and reduce decision fatigue, ensuring you stay aligned with your bigger vision.

### The Ripple Effect

Systemizing your life has a ripple effect:

- You improve your health, which improves your sleep.

- Better sleep reduces irritation, leading to better relationships and more focused work.

- With more focus, you make better decisions and spot new opportunities.

- Seizing opportunities increases your income and quality of life, which loops back into improving your relationships.

It all starts with small changes—like putting your phone away two hours before bed, creating a morning routine, or decluttering your workspace.

Cutting the BS isn’t about working faster; it’s about regaining control, clarity, and focus. The ROI is time saved—not by rushing, but by working smarter, prioritizing intentionally, and automating where possible.

Investing time upfront to build systems pays dividends, taking you where you want to go.
